A Life That Led to Design

Barbra Bright's path to interior design is one of the most interesting origin stories in the Marin design community. Her passion started in childhood, where she learned to sew and created costumes. That eventually led her to costume design for SRO, a 19-person cover band, where she dressed performers in sequined coattails, bow ties, cummerbunds, and custom stage wear that radiated a fun, colorful, sexy vibe.

That theatrical eye for how clothes and color create feeling and presence translated directly into how she thinks about interior spaces. After a pivotal life transition, Barbra dove into building an interior design business, working with high-end kitchen showrooms across the Bay Area before founding Barbra Bright Design and establishing her studio on 4th Street in San Rafael.

The Studio — A Model Home on 4th Street

A former comic book store in San Rafael that Barbra slowly remodeled over five years, the studio today is a unique showroom set up like a model home, with a bar, a living room, and a closet. It is designed to show how cohesive an entire house can be while remaining fully livable.
