About Bernadette's Workshop
Rooted in the landscapes of San Rafael and shaped by the ancient traditions of Hungarian craftsmanship, Bernadette Szilvasy Bodecs works at the intersection of the natural world and the deeply personal. Her primary mediums - oil on panel and porcelain - reflect a dual sensibility: one foot in the painterly tradition of light and observation, the other in the exacting, meditative discipline of fine ceramic art.
Bernadette's artistic foundation was laid at the renowned Porcelain Manufacture in Herend, Hungary, one of Europe's most celebrated centers of porcelain artistry. That training instilled in her an enduring reverence for craft, precision, and the idea that beauty deserves patience. It is a philosophy that carries through every piece she creates today.
Her paintings draw from the world she inhabits - Marin's shimmering seascapes, the graceful geometry of sailboats at rest, the quiet persistence of plants and animals going about their lives. She paints these subjects not merely to document them, but to distill the particular joy she finds in looking closely. Her portrait work carries that same intention, seeking not just a likeness but the ineffable quality of a person - the expression that exists only for a moment before it's gone.
Whether working in oil or porcelain, Bernadette approaches each piece as an act of gratitude: for the medium, for the subject, and for the rare privilege of making something that endures. Her work is an ongoing conversation between tradition and wonder, between craft and feeling - one she is quietly, joyfully committed to continuing.
