About The Limantour Lodge
Limantour Lodge - The Only Accommodation Inside Point Reyes National Seashore
There is no other lodging experience quite like this one in all of Marin County - and that is not marketing language, it is a geographical fact. Limantour Lodge is the only accommodation inside the boundaries of Point Reyes National Seashore, sitting steps away from hiking trails, wild beaches, and some of the most breathtaking coastal wilderness in the entire state of California. For nature lovers, hikers, birdwatchers, and anyone who wants to wake up already inside one of America's greatest national parks, this is the place.
A New Chapter for a Beloved Property
Formerly known as the Point Reyes Hostel, operated by Hosteling International, the property was taken over in 2023 and renamed Limantour Lodge - a nod to the beautiful beach and estero just down the road. New ownership brought with it fresh energy, updated amenities, and an elevated approach to the communal lodging experience - everything from furniture and bedding to towels, paint, and kitchen supplies was refreshed, all while preserving the spirit of adventure and community that has made this property a beloved destination for decades.
The Lodge - An Elevated Hostel Experience in a Spectacular Setting
Limantour Lodge offers an elevated hostel experience in a rustic lodge with many communal spaces to hang out, meet new friends, and plan the next day's adventure in Point Reyes National Seashore. Accommodations range from a large bunkhouse sleeping up to 22 people to private rooms with either a single queen bed or a double plus bunk beds. All guests share bathroom facilities and have access to generous communal spaces - a fully equipped guest kitchen, cozy common areas with great views, and an outdoor patio and barbecue area that make it easy to settle in and feel at home after a long day on the trails. Free WiFi is available throughout all buildings, and guests also have free use of beach chairs, boogie boards, and games - thoughtful touches that reflect the genuine hospitality of the new management team.
For groups, the entire lodge can be booked out for maximum privacy, making it an exceptional choice for school trips, corporate retreats, family reunions, and youth groups.
The Location - Wilderness at Your Doorstep
Situated in a quiet, secluded valley just 15 minutes from Point Reyes Station, Limantour Lodge places guests at the center of one of the most ecologically rich landscapes on the West Coast. Surrounded by 140 miles of trails winding through uniquely diverse habitats, the lodge is perfect for hiking, biking, and wildlife watching - and guests regularly report spotting deer, foxes, hummingbirds, and an extraordinary variety of coastal birds right on the property grounds. Limantour Beach, the Point Reyes Lighthouse, Tomales Bay, and the Cypress Tree Tunnel are all within easy reach, and the absence of cell service on the property - you will need to drive up the road a short distance to get a signal - feels less like an inconvenience and more like a gift.
The Vibe - Community, Adventure, and Pure West Marin Magic
Guests consistently describe the property as feeling like a different world entirely - just 90 minutes north of San Francisco, yet completely removed from city life. The staff is warm and genuinely knowledgeable about the area, offering trail recommendations, local tips, and the kind of personal attention that makes a stay feel cared for rather than transactional. Families with young children find it just as welcoming as solo adventurers and hiking groups - the communal spirit of the place has a way of bringing very different kinds of travelers together around a shared love of the outdoors.
Limantour Lodge is ranked as a top specialty lodging destination in Point Reyes National Seashore - a reflection of what happens when a truly special location is matched with ownership that genuinely cares about the guest experience.
