Point Reyes Western Weekend - West Marin's Most Beloved Community Celebration of Ranching Heritage Since 1948
There is a particular kind of community gathering that no event planner can manufacture and no marketing budget can replicate - the kind that grows organically from genuine shared history, where the people in the parade are your neighbors, where the food at the corral is made by local students, and where showing up feels less like attending an event and more like participating in something that belongs to everyone. Point Reyes Western Weekend is exactly that kind of gathering, and it has been since 1948.
Western Weekend is West Marin's celebration of its agricultural roots, now more than 75 years old, and it remains one of the most authentic and genuinely moving community events in all of Marin County. Every year on the first weekend of June, Point Reyes Station transforms into a living portrait of ranching culture, land stewardship, local food, and deep community pride.
A Weekend That Honors Those Who Labor on the Land
Western Weekend celebrates those who helped make West Marin a model of locally produced food and responsible stewardship. The weekend kicks off summer in Point Reyes Station with a parade and a host of events that honor ranching families, 4-H members, farmers, and food producers whose work has shaped the region for generations.
Saturday - Farmers Market, Art Galleries, and the Barn Dance
Saturday opens with downtown Point Reyes Station in full swing. Visitors can shop local producers at the Wild West Farmers Market from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Toby's Feed Barn, then explore local galleries and shops. Saturday evening brings the annual Barn Dance at the Dance Palace - free, all-ages, and one of the most joyful gatherings on the West Marin calendar.
Sunday - The Parade, the Food Corral, and the Full Community Spectacle
Sunday is when Western Weekend reaches full expression. The parade begins at 12 noon on Main Street, with decorated horses, colorful floats, local bands, dancers, and vintage cars. Main Street fills with locals and visitors alike for a celebration that feels deeply rooted rather than staged.
At Toby's Feed Barn, the Food Corral opens at 11:30 AM with a community feast, including homemade offerings that support local student programs. The day also includes livestock, arts and crafts vendors, family activities, and a full range of community booths.
A Tradition With Deep Roots and Real Meaning
The West Marin Lions Club has anchored Western Weekend since its founding, with broad support from local organizations that reflects how deeply this event belongs to the community. As the ranching landscape of Point Reyes continues to evolve, Western Weekend has taken on even deeper meaning as an annual expression of gratitude, continuity, and collective identity.
Free Admission - The Best Deal in West Marin
Western Weekend has free admission because a community celebration built for neighbors was never meant to have a gate. It is Point Reyes Station's gift to itself and to anyone willing to make the drive to experience one of the most authentic community events in the Bay Area.
